Use POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15 Metal Prep to properly get your surface ready for the POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating. You’ll be amazed at the toughness!
I really didn’t know what to expect with this product from the description, but I ordered it as the manufacturer recommended its use prior to painting. Upon receiving it and reading the product composition and application instructions, I see that the chemistry involved is quite sound. It is a phosphate/zinc composition that forms an iron phosphate passivation layer on the metal and the zinc compound then provides (albeit thin) a galvanized surface layer. Worked very well when used as directed. It is important to keep the surface wet for 20 minutes as they direct so the chemical reactions can take place.
